King Arthur and Sunrise..

20th May supporting the 32-20's

The set's starting to really take shape as the summer UK festival season gets under way. Friday 20th saw a gig supporting the wonderful 32-20's at the King Arthur pub in Glastonbury. The band joined me for the final track, 'The 'Ol Highway' a track written in the back of a van in New Zealand touring round the South Island. 'Another Platform' was weak but the new track 'I Feel Fine' was better than expected.

This was the perfect opportunity to warm up for the Sunrise festival which kicks of on tue the 2nd at a site near Bruton, Somerset. Really looking forward to it as i'm working with Gem on the sound desk for most of the festival. I have two gigs, firstly opening the 'Spit n Sawdust stage on the thursday night at 7pm. Then on Dave Sangers 'Horsedrawn' stage later over the weekend time tbc.

Strange day, Okay though. Remembered a track we were writing back with 'Local Chemistry,' Harry McGuvnor, Dave Jenkins and Jesse Harding at the time. Jesse came up with the Riff, or was it Dave, anyway, it matched something i was doing and I had a friend there, Ken Abis. He had his dog with him called 'More Love' and from that came the lyric 'Lay Down More Love.' Harry, as I remember had a riff on the Piano that was in the same Key and I really wanted to mix it in, but we never got to fuse it together.
We performed the track once live at 'The Crown' in Glastonbury. It's time to get that track out, somehow fuse those parts together.. contact Harry..

Last Nights Gig @ the King Arthur, Glastonbury.

The Gig last night was a fantastic example of the Glastonbury's Alternative Music Scene.

Supporting Symeon Webb and Mark Kelly summed up to me the spirit of being a musician in Glastonbury. The Gig in the back room of the King Arthur pub wasn't packed by any means, a nice atmosphere and reasonable crowd, set against the abbey's stone wall. The Drapes and high oak beams over a well lite and well balanced stage, are some of the reasons that glastafarians are drifting here again. Sounds of Glastonbury town promoter and Musician Cameron Scott is the driving force behind the new vibrant vibe at the Arthur. He joined Mark Kelly for an amazing Santana inspired rip on guitar last night taking the night past closing into kicking out/ cutting the power time. Before Mr. Kelly with his 'woody Guthrie' bohemian rants and chug along compositions came Sym, who also decide to bring on stage for an impromptu accompaniment, Jesse Harding. Jesse is a symbiotic Keys player who feels his way through the music adding and pushing you in different directions at any given moment. I really enjoyed 'Sym's' more focused set at the Lazy Ghecko Cafe sessions a week ago, but last night was a unique demonstartion of how Glastonbury can fuse musicians. Ad-libbing with his chaos effects box and vocals to Jesse' jazz esque keys. Ghecko Cafe owner, Samuel Binding commented, "you never know what he's thinking and where we're giong next!"

To sum up, it's like a melting pot here of Individual style. These musicians keep their integrity and join together in moments of mad chaos like last night. To look around the room at pretty much any gig in this town you'll see band members from the other acts here, always supporting and checking each other and jopining in for jam's like last night.

Fantastic first festi of the Summer.

The gig on the Spit n Sawdust stage at Sunrise Celebration went well.

The set started off with 'Rollin On' with stripped down lyrics, there's more to this song yet and i hope to record something soon. Second was a re-write of 'Flowers' which suprised even me, it left me feeling comfortable and went down really well. Very 'Johnny Cash' i thought! Following, came the intro and lead lines from a track called 'Train Story' which i'm still trying to rewrite lyrically so this just lead into a version of 'Sah Lah Jah.' All of these bar the first where in 'C' which helps my vocal immensely however it really didn't work for the last. I played 'Love' next on the 'Shine' electric which went well, still need to sort out the vocal though.
The set ended with 'i'll see again' followed by 'Closer to Fine' by the Indigo Girls and finally 'Another Platform' transcribed from 'G' to 'D' on tuesday and a bit fraught, however this went well and lyrically is satisfying.

So, several suprise songs for me, leaving me pondering my strongest set. Apart from a performance at Glastonbury festival, it's onto recording this set now for a demo e.p., one step closer... thank you vicki purple and the Sunrise festival.

so the set at the King Arthur was dissappointing. 'Father Time (close your eyes)' didn't settle me like i thought it would instead I found myself fighting the sound.. 'Rolling on' was some redemption though and i like how this is coming along.
'Coffeeshop Crossroads' really was too mellow this early in the set and reminds me that a set list needs to be fluid. Because of time restrictions, this left one last track, 'Love' which is strong.

So revisions needed for the Sunrise gig on Thursday..

Really enjoyed Lazy ghecko Gig, thurs 4th March.

supported the Dolmen at the Lazy Ghecko Cafe in Glastonbury last thurs night and really enjjoyed it. Played three tracks as part of a varied eveniing of music in what is a lovely atmosphere at the 'Lazy Ghecko.' First public performance of 'Father Time (close your eyes)' went down really well and 'I'll see again' is sounding better now i've transposed it half step. All in all a good first gig for 2010.

hello, just to let you know you can get a free copy of 'i'll see again' on reverbnation, if you become a 'fan', go on.. This is probably my best track yet, recorded with the loving attention of Jerome O'connell at J Rokka studio's in 2007. Jerome also plays the chello, layering tracks of mood onto the piece.. it was an interesting project and one i'm proud to have say i wrote.

First Headline slot at the G.A.S. Club wednesday night at the Rife's

Dr.Ripsleeve rip it up. I really got off on last nights first official Dr gig.
Some of the tunes got a bit ragged but really fantastic over all. Even got an old mate signing

I do believe in a community radio station. Truely, but i can't maintain Glastonburyradio . Net because i don't feel a sense of a community project. Its factional! and i'm a musician, all those hours denying myself and the world. I have many other arrows to sling and i also have a baby on the way..

Yes i'm going to be a dad, and emily won't let me stress over stupid old men.
